Screening of domestic violence and sexual abuse

Here is the testimonial of a clinical, school and community psychologist in a disadvantaged school:

"I discovered Surfeel in 2021 and found it very interesting. I wanted to develop my own social-and-emotional program, but as this one was already done and available, I just needed to adapt it a bit to the ages. I presented the program to the director, who gave his endorsement and we acquired the program.

"I implemented the program in grade 1 with one session a week. I visit classrooms during class time, show the videos and do the activities with the children. They love and call me 'the Feelings Teacher. 'When I couldn't go there for a month, they asked the teacher every day 'When does the Feelings Teacher come back?'

"I also used a box as a theater. When something happens in the lives of children, they can go to the theater box and tell the puppets how they feel and why. I identified 15 situations of children at risk directly thanks to Surfeel program, some of them that I signaled to Child Protective Services. Among these children at risk, one suffered from domestic violence and one of sexual abuse. These children are 6! Despite the pain I felt when I discover the abuse, it is a victory to be able to say it so that we can bring them to safety.
